Donald Dewar Leisure Centre, Glasgow

Getting the ideal light levels in gyms and leisure centres is an important part in creating the right atmosphere to focus on health and fitness. This was one of the reasons Dextra was asked to work with Glasgow Life again as it looked to upgrade the lighting at the Donald Dewar Leisure Centre as the business approached its 20th year.

Situated in the west of the city, the Donald Dewar Leisure Centre has a bright and airy gym and fitness studio, along with fantastic full-size football pitches.

It is run by Glasgow Life, a charity set up to benefit everyone in the city of Glasgow.

The charity exists to improve people’s mental and physical wellbeing through culture and sport, and support the city’s visitor economy and enhance its reputation as a great place to live, work, learn, and visit. Glasgow LIfe generates funds through culture and sport programmes and re-invests the money in the charitable activities which supports its vision.

Working with Glasgow Life and contractor City Building LLP, Dextra was asked to help upgrade the building’s existing lighting to LED to help reduce energy costs.

Dextra already works closely with Glasgow Life and City Building LLP to deliver quality products, designs and achieve their energy-saving goals.

Dextra has the ideal product portfolio for this project including the Prosport luminaire which was selected because of its very high efficiency levels and impact resistance to ball strikes.

Originally, the building had 76 light fittings in the sports hall alone, but the introduction of Prosport meant that Dextra could reduce that to 32 and still maintain the lux levels required plus significant energy savings.
