Based in Gillingham, Dorset, our company commenced luminaire production in the late 70’s in a start-up premises in rural Dorset. Rupert Martin founded the company when he saw an opportunity in the market place due to poor service offered by lighting companies who could not meet the needs of their customers.
The earliest items produced were simple recessed items designed specifically for the suspended ceiling industry. He very quickly realised to achieve the goal of a fast and reliable service required by clients (5-7 day lead times are our norm) he would need to invest heavily in manufacturing equipment. That policy prevails to the present day.
In the ensuing years he constantly up graded the product range to find new markets, comply with relevant regulation changes and customer requirements. As a result in January 2008 a dramatic company restructure was put in place in order for the business to take advantage of developing niche markets that were being driven often by energy efficiency. The policy has been extended in recent years as follows:-
The current structure led to a proliferation of new products which enabled the company to take advantage of the move to luminaires utilising light emitting diodes (LED). The policy of close association with market leading European component producers combined with our own highly motivated design and technical team has resulted in a product range more varied than most competition in Europe.
However, whilst the commercial use of LED’s is increasing quicker than our expectations, the product ranges using highly efficient T5 still constitutes considerable volume.
A continual investment from the company’s own resources in state of the art machinery comparable to any found in the UK or Europe along with an ongoing investment in R &D enables the company to respond quickly to the ever changing requirements of the UK and European market place.
As a just in time manufacturer with a working week delivery policy with wholly owned distribution facility and liveried fleet we are able to deliver to a very wide and diverse range of outlets across the UK, Ireland and Europe, including site deliveries. Uniquely, end of life products are processed under the WEEE regulations.
Our customer service and after sales care are not compromised. This belief in high service levels has led us to become the largest self-owned luminaire manufacturer in the UK. This ethic continues to go forward throughout the group companies and is an ethos that employees embrace.
Current legislation is complied with. We meet the following standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BS OHSAS 18001, WEEE and all of our employees work hard to ensure that these standards are maintained. We also have Public and Product Liability insurance.
