Dextra Group employees contributed towards a collection for Gillingham Foodbank prior to Christmas and donated an amazing 127.3kg.
“Thank you so much to everyone at Dextra for your very generous donation to Gillingham Foodbank this Christmas, which weighed in at an incredible 127.3kg and will go a long way to helping local people who are really struggling at this time of year.
Recent inflation figures confirmed the price of food has risen by 14.6% which, alongside the increased costs of other essentials such as gas, electricity and fuel, is hitting many, many people hard in our community.
At Gillingham Foodbank, we’ve actually given out 83% more food parcels than this time last year. We’re doing everything we can to help people throughout the Blackmore Vale and adjacent areas, but the demand for our services is rocketing. It’s true to say that we’re facing our most challenging winter yet.
The sharp increase in people needing emergency food is outstripping food donations – food banks are having to top up donations by buying food on a scale we’ve never seen before, so your donation will really help us.
Hunger in the UK isn’t about food. It’s about a lack of income. Poverty isn’t inevitable, and there is something we can all do to help build a future where no one needs a food bank. Together we can work to build a future in which everyone should have the dignity of being able to afford to buy food.
