Based in North Shields, the Parks Leisure is home to a Contours gym, studios for exercise classes, a sports hall and bowling green.

This means it can cater for basketball, indoor and outdoor football, badminton, bowls, cricket, table tennis, trampolining, gymnastics, martial arts and many more sports. There is also a children’s Play Den based at the centre and various rooms that are available to hire, featuring all the latest multi-media facilities.

On this project Dextra worked with North Tyneside Council, who is a long-standing customer and Nala Engineering Seaham Co. Durham. The main aim was to replace the existing luminaires to improve energy saving as well as freshen the building up.

THE SOLUTION

To improve the appearance in the entrance area, Dextra’s Amenity Exterior Open was chosen and two were installed.

As one of its most popular luminaires, the Amenity Exterior Open is manufactured with a tough and durable die cast aluminium housing and injection moulded polycarbonate diffuser. The Amenity Exterior includes premium mid power LEDs offering excellent efficiency and longevity with a lifetime of L90 at 60,000 operating hours. Energy savings can be further enhanced with a selection of integral presence detection and bright out microwave sensors including on / off, bi level dimming and wireless variants allowing luminaires to be grouped for simultaneous operation.

In the main reception area, five Capo XL were used to improve style and output. The Capo XL offers a modern and attractive appearance with similar lumen output to traditional 250W and 400W HID luminaires with typically half the energy consumption and minimal maintenance requirements ensuring that the Capo XL provides rapid return on investment in the vast majority of applications.

Used along side the Capo XL in the reception was the Planum which is known for its stylish appearance, with three installed in this area.

The Planum provides a slimline aesthetically attractive, wall mounted, bi-directional luminaire ideally suited for reception areas, corridors, stairways and applications where installation of ceiling mounted luminaires is impractical. Offering a 50% up / 50% down light distribution with lensed optics for precise beam control, the Planum provides a highly efficient solution in three housing lengths that can be tailored to suit your installation.

Elsewhere, in the main mall area, seven Protec’s were fitted. Chosen for its size and efficiency, the Protec is the most versatile downlight in the Dextra range with a selection of attachments allowing the product to be personalised to suit most applications. It is available with two reflector options, coloured ring inserts to match corporate themes, drop glass and ring attachments.

In the toilets, the efficient IP65 rated Amenity Decorative was installed, with six luminaires fitted. Manufactured with high quality mid power LEDs the Amenity Decorative offers excellent energy efficiency and longevity with L90 at 60,000 operating hours. It offers an attractive solution for amenity applications such as corridors and stairwells and is manufactured from robust injection moulded polycarbonate to ensure it can withstand light accidental impact that can occur in such applications. This flexible range is available in 1500, 2000, 3000 and 4000 lumen outputs, as well a range of dimming and integral lithium emergency variants.

14 Discalo’s were fitted in the stairwells and corridor areas. The Discalo provides an efficient yet decorative wall mounted solution with halo back light for applications ranging from corridors and receptions through to bars and restaurants. With 1500, 2000, 3000 and 4000 lumen output options, blue or white back light halos, integral lithium emergency offering extended lifetime and warranty as well as integral sensor options the Discalo LED is easily tailored to your needs both aesthetically and at a functional level. The integral microwave sensor is available in either on / off or bi level versions and also include wirelessly linked variants to enable luminaires to be grouped for simultaneous operation.
