Ilfracombe Arts College use Dextra Lighting as part of major refurbishment

ilfracombe2Ilfracombe Arts College is a community college that is quickly gaining an impressive reputation in the North Devon region. With a good Ofsted report and ever increasing student base the college has had to undergo major building and refurbishment work to help aid continuous development and improvement. Recently £3 million has been spent on its Beacon Art Centre and a further £1 million on a further refurbishment programme.

When NPS Group approached Dextra Lighting about upgrading the classroom lighting in the science/technology classrooms and toilets to surface mounted LED luminaries, the company’s Graduate LED and Amenity Plus LED ranges were chosen. NPS Group and the college wanted a maintenance free education lighting solution which was going to reduce their current running costs, increase the existing class room lighting levels and was going to make the classrooms look as if they have had a complete refurbishment.

The Graduate LED range offers the right mix of flexibility and innovation. Already with a healthy reputation around the

UK, and one that has become synonymous with high quality school lighting and college lighting within the sector, the Graduate LED enables a wide range of classroom lighting to benefit from this unrivalled product. It offers the major benefits expected from school lighting fixtures – excellent energy efficiency and an extended lifetime.

Combining energy efficiency with cost savings, the Graduate is fitted with an LED variant that offers maximum flexibility and enables lighting functions to be changed as often as necessary to cope with times of day, activity levels and working environment. The new LED lighting variant has been designed to incorporate an optional integral microwave sensor with bright out control to further increase the achievable energy savings, reduce carbon footprint and increase return on investment.

Thanks to the Graduate LED’s advanced sensor technology, which requires no modification of external wiring, it is ideal in retrofit settings such as school lighting, college lighting and university lighting.

The other product chosen by the college and NPS Group is the Amenity Plus LED. This is produced in conjunction with Tridonic and exclusive to Dextra Lighing allowing it to offer a range of functions unique to the company. With 1500 lumen output and light output ratios in excess of 80% this product range gives similar performance to a 28W 2D luminaire with the benefit of an extended product lifetime and five year warranty.

The Amenity Plus LED can be offered with optional integral sensor, emergency, corridor mode or dimming options all of which can be combined to tailor the luminaire to suit your application. This product range is available with black or white polycarbonate bodies, ensuring that this luminaire will meet both your aesthetic and practical needs.

The Amenity Plus LED range is sealed to IP65 allowing for use in external lighting areas such as under canopies, but is equally suited to a range of internal applications such as corridors, stairways, toilets and storage areas.

NPS Group and Ilfracombe College’s teachers have both reported the new light fittings are not only working well but are improving the education lighting within the classrooms around the college.
