At the 2016 Lux Awards, Dexreco fought off stiff competition from three other nominees and were awarded with the accolade ‘Recycling Project of the Year’ for our Waste Management Solution offered to our customers.
One of the biggest recycling projects undertaken in 2016 was for Iceland Frozen Foods. Over a five month period, Dexretail won a contract to supply 700+ Iceland stores across the UK and Ireland with a completely bespoke LED lighting solution. Iceland had recognised that we as a Group could not only take care of design, manufacture and prompt delivery, but also the recycling of all their existing 1200mm x 600mm luminaires and lamps.
Due to sheer volume of waste that was forecast to come back on a daily basis, a dedicated team were set up to unload and process the fittings and a new wrap around steel baler, allowing us to process large volumes of material in a short space of time was purchased.
Every component inside each of the 51,000 old fittings, was successfully recycled. In total we collected and recycled 588 tonnes of redundant lighting with 0% going to landfill.
Described by the judges as an ‘Example to the lighting industry’, it is great to see our on-going commitment to the environment and attitude to recycling being recognised. In 2016, we have collected and recycled 1140 tonnes of WEEE, now officially our best ever year.
